TikTok Shop is an online store platform launched by ByteDance for the international version of TikTok. Businesses can showcase their products on TikTok Shop and leverage their TikTok accounts to drive traffic to their shops, facilitating direct shopping conversion within the TikTok app and shortening the buyer’s journey. In essence, TikTok Shop is akin to Douyin Xiaodian (Douyin Shop) in China. Initially targeting local businesses abroad, it now has relatively relaxed policies, allowing Chinese businesses to apply for shop entry as well.
In the past, TikTok’s small shops were mainly divided into two types:
Local TikTok Shop: These shops are owned and operated by local businesses. They primarily target the local market and must be operated by local enterprises.
Cross-border TikTok Shop: These shops are operated by Chinese businesses but engage in cross-border sales. They typically target international markets, but currently only Chinese enterprises can join.
In addition to these two types of shops, there is the TikTok Creator Cart. This is an invitation-only special feature that does not fall under the general shop category. If your account is selected and opens the Creator Cart, your account will appear in the Creator Square of the TikTok shop backstage, similar to a celebrity list, allowing you to showcase and promote your products on the platform.
As mentioned earlier, merely opening a TikTok Shop account is not sufficient. You still need to leverage the traffic from your TikTok account. Therefore, you’ll need to prepare a mobile phone to download and register TikTok, position your account’s content, and grow your follower base. This is crucial for success.
Now, let’s discuss the environment required to operate TikTok:
In 2019, TikTok limited Chinese users from using the app outside China. In other words, mainland users are not allowed to download and register for TikTok. If TikTok’s system detects that your device’s physical IP or GPS is in China while using TikTok, your TikTok account will be subject to official restrictions. This is a firm condition; do not harbor any illusions.
Officially, it’s stated as maintaining language diversity. In essence, Chinese users already have Douyin (the Chinese version of TikTok). Opening TikTok to Chinese users would likely lead to the comment sections of foreign videos being inundated by Chinese users, causing potential issues.
Given the aforementioned environmental constraints, we will utilize the BitFingerprint browser along with IPHTML TikTok-specific IP for registration.
1.Register an account on the IPHTML platform via the following link: IPHTML Platform Registration
2.hoose and purchase a TikTok-specific IP address for the United States.
3.Then, use the fingerprint browser to create a virtual environment window set to the United States.
Remember, make sure the language is set to English (United States).
After setting up the environment, let’s demonstrate how to open a TikTok Shop for the local market in the United States. We’ll use the example of opening a local shop. You can ponder a question: which carries more weight, a local shop or a cross-border shop?
Step 1: Click the link below to enter the registration page: Local TikTok Shop Registration Page
A. If you already have a TikTok account, simply click “Sign up with TikTok Account” to log in using your existing account. After logging in, submit the required information.
B.If you don’t have a TikTok account yet, click “Sign up” to register for an account. When registering, it’s recommended to use a corporate email address instead of using QQ or other email services.
Step 2: After logging in with your existing account, authorize the account information to TikTok Shop.
Step 3: Fill in your phone number and email for verification purposes.
Step 4: At this point, your United States shop has been successfully registered. Next, proceed with submitting the required information and publishing your products.
Step 5: Before selling on TikTok, it’s necessary to verify the relevant information of your shop. Let’s take a look at what information needs to be submitted. The required documents have already been listed at the beginning of the article, so we won’t repeat them here.
Step 6: Bind a third-party USD account capable of receiving payments. There are many cross-border payment platforms available, so you can choose one that you are familiar with.
Sales Commission: 5%, with no additional payment processing fees.
Settlement: Merchants provide their corporate bank account information. Settlements for the previous period’s payable amount occur on the 1st and 16th of each month. If there are statutory holidays, settlement will be postponed to the next working day.
Return and Exchange Policy: Cross-border shops need to bind a local UK phone number for receiving return and exchange information. According to UK law, customers have a 14-day cooling-off period from the receipt of goods for returns or exchanges.
Customer Service: The platform provides an instant messaging tool. Sellers must have a professional customer service team to provide pre-sale and after-sale services. These services include but are not limited to product inquiries, order shipping, after-sales support, handling complaints, and responding promptly to buyer inquiries.
For cross-border shops, packages with a taxable sales price of £135 or less (total value, not the value of each item in the order) require the seller to contact the TikTok delivery carrier to confirm the operational procedures and send the package to the carrier’s warehouse, or have the carrier collect it.
If the seller ships the package to TikTok’s consolidation center warehouse in China, the package must be delivered to the warehouse within 72 hours.
If the TikTok Shop carrier collects the package, it must be delivered to the warehouse within 48 hours. Once the package arrives at the carrier’s warehouse, the carrier will complete the warehousing operation within 24 hours and update the order status to “Shipped” in the seller’s center.
